5 Dance Albums You Need to Hear

These are the five albums, at the moment, that I think everyone needs to listen to.  Don’t forget to follow the links to preview the tracks!

5.  Mylo – Destroy Rock & Roll

Destroy Rock & Roll

Super smooth, and sexy.  Perfect for a lazy afternoon by the pool.

4.  Cassius – 1999

This album is an experience in the artistry of sampling.  This album is meant to be enjoyed from start to finish.  However, if you must I recommend “Feeling for You” and “Foxxy”.

3.  Room 5 – Music and You

Music & You

This album is a perfect example of solid, straightforward disco house.  With an excellent ear for catchy disco samples and top notch production, Room 5 has crafted a solid half hour of disco fun.

2.  Daft Punk – Discovery

This is an obvious choice.  Daft Punk are the kings of dance music.  With mainstream influence and indie cool, Daft Punk has it all.  Cool robot helmets, mysterious identities, and of course awesome music.  This is an album I believe anyone, even the biggest haters, will fall in love with.  Every track on this album has single potential and it is 45 minutes of your life you will want to experience over and over again.

1.  Chic – Greatest Hits

Very Best of Chic

Whoa, Daft Punk at #2?  I realize how blasphemous that may seem, but Chic is the reason modern dance music exists in the form it does today.  Their work has shaped the other albums on this list and their samples actually appear in a few tracks.  It is impossible to decide the best album they have ever written.  However, every fan of modern dance and house music needs to be aware of their extensive influence.

What are your favorite dance albums?  Feel free to discuss in the comments below!

Daft Love Mix! (Updated)

So a while ago I posted a mix I made based on a few Daft Punk love songs.  Well I liked it so much (I did make this primarily for myself) I expanded it.  It’s now two hours long!  I also cleaned up a few of the transitions.  The new and improved “Daft Love” mix!  Lots of Daft Punk, Louis La Roche, and French house love going on, enjoy!

And the sweet cover art was designed by my friend Chris.  It turned out ten times better than anything I could have done.  Check out his music and art blog, Catchy as a Cactus!

I Love Louis La Roche!

I can’t stop listening to this kid’s music.  Yes, kid.  The guy’s only 19 years old!  He’s already got a few EP’s out, my personal favorite being his debut, The Peach. He currently has an album in the works and the first single, My Turn, is due out very soon.  I initially came across his work because one of his tracks, Love, was mistaken as an unreleased Daft Punk song.  Not bad.  His stuff has a lot of disco, 90’s house, and french touch vibes.  I honestly can’t think of a better combination of styles.  Not to mention his remix work is absolutely phenomenal.  Expect big things from Louis La Roche!

My First Track…That Actually Turned Out Well!

So I’ve been listening to tons of house disco, particularly the great Armand Van Helden.  I was inspired to try my hand at it.  I already own and listen to tons of disco anyways, and I just happened to notice that Peter Brown’s Dance With Me had lots of remix potential.  So, using only samples from that song plus a little bit of my own beats, I present my edit/remix of Peter Brown’s Dance With Me. I call it: Makin’ Me High. Bear in mind that I have no real equipment, just some shitty “filter” plug-ins and such.  All in all, I’m happy with the outcome.

Plus a few tracks that inspired it!

Duck Sauce!

The dance music dream team of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden have created some of the best house disco I’ve ever heard!  They work together under the moniker of Duck Sauce.  Strange name, but the music is sick.  Check out their EP, titled Greatest Hits and my personal favorite track below.  And no, this didn’t come out in the 70’s.

My First Mix!!!

So I’ve been listening to a lot of DJ mixes recently, and I thought I’d try my hand at one.  I just used a simple Garageband like program called Mixcraft.  No real DJing going on here unfortunately.  Regardless, it was fun to make and I thought it came out pretty well.  My favorite part is the transition between DJ Mehdi’s Lucky Girl and Daft Punk’s Oh Yeah at 32:40-33:00. Enjoy!

Playlist Idea – Daft Punk Love Songs

So I had a fun idea for a playlist that I wanted to share.  I think Daft Punkis at their best when they slow things down, especially in the breakdowns of their songs.  They really get the disco vibe going, and when the kick drum finally comes back in, it’s all the better.  Plus, they write awesome “love” songs, if you want to call them that.  So here’s the playlist, hope you like it.  It clocks in at around an hour.  That should be enough time to uh…Enjoy!

1. Something About Us – Daft Punk

2. Night Vision – Daft Punk

3. Make Love – Daft Punk

4. Music Sounds Better With You – Stardust
